Ep 40. Epigenetics and Psychology: The Impact of Multigenerational Trauma on Black Outcomes: Dr. Rick Wallace

Epigenetics is the study of how your behaviors and environment can cause changes that affect the way your genes work. Unlike genetic changes, epigenetic changes are reversible and do not change your DNA sequence but can change how your body reads a DNA sequence.
Transgenerational epigenetic inheritance (TEI) is the transmission of epigenetic markers from one organism to the next (i.e., parent-child transmission) that affects offspring's traits without altering the primary structure of DNA.

Dr. Rick Wallace will explore holistic health: Black people are a unique population in the U.S. The failure to acknowledge our uniqueness through experience and position leads to ineptitude in solving our most enigmatic issues. Through social learning and epigenetics, the perpetuation of multigenerational trauma created a static existence of perpetual survival. The ultimate idea of empowerment should center on the Afrocentric idea of holistic healing.
